BARRIE – Today, organizers and sponsors officially launched Hockey Night in Simcoe County X at the Barrie Molson Centre Club Lounge. The game will be held on Thursday, August 10th and doors open at 6:30 with the official puck drop at 7 pm at the BMC. Tickets are on sale to the public starting April 24, 2017.
“I am proud to announce that this is the 10th year that we will bring Hockey Night to Simcoe County and every year the event has grown bigger and better. People look forward to coming together to support these worthy charities and have an evening of family fun with legendary hockey greats and the community leaders that kindly support the event. Together we have raised over $1.8 million” said Ontario PC Leader Patrick Brown who is helping to organize the event.
The recipients of the proceeds from this year’s event include local hospitals and charities from across Simcoe County: Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre in Barrie (RVH), Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital in Orillia (OSMH), Georgian Bay General Hospital in Midland (GBGH), and the Barrie Colts Foundation.
The beneficiaries expressed their excitement about participating in this year’s event.
“RVH is privileged to be a beneficiary of this amazing event for 10 years now,” says Janice Skot, RVH president and CEO. “The money raised will help develop an eight-bed child and youth mental health inpatient unit and day program at RVH. Simcoe Muskoka is the only region in the province without these important services and we need to ensure kids from across this region can get the mental health services they need, closer to home.”
“We’re delighted to once again be one of the recipients of Hockey Night in Simcoe County,” said Pat Campbell, OSMH President and CEO. “We want to thank Patrick Brown and his team for continuing to support the health care of residents throughout the region with this collaborative fundraiser. The funds raised will help improve care for our youngest and most vulnerable patients at OSMH by contributing to our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.”
“Hockey Night in Simcoe County is not only an entertaining and fun event for the whole family, but it plays an important role in providing the best health care to people who live, work and play in our region. Part of the proceeds from this year’s event will help purchase a new CT Scanner for Georgian Bay General Hospital. This vital piece of equipment is critical to our emergency department, and is used to diagnose injuries and illnesses more than 700 times a month,” said Lois Lipton, President, Georgian Bay General Hospital Foundation. “We can’t thank Patrick Brown and his team enough for helping us to provide our physicians and staff with the tools they need to deliver the best care to GBGH patients.”
“The Barrie Colts have been involved in helping organize and promote this event for 10 years now. It’s incredible to see the support this event has received and the amount of money that Patrick and his team have raised for worthy causes in our community”, said Jim Payetta, Co-owner of the Barrie Colts. "The Barrie Colts Community Fund is one of the recipients of the proceeds of this event and we are thrilled to be able to use those funds to assist various organizations in Simcoe County. This event speaks to the kind of person and leader that Patrick Brown is. We’re proud to be associated with him and his team and with this event”, he added.
