Barrie, ON – Hockey Night in Simcoe County (HNISC) just announced that NHL superstar and Edmonton Oilers Captain, Connor McDavid will be coming back to Barrie for Hockey Night! This is the fourth year McDavid has laced up for Hockey Night in Simcoe County’s great causes. The former first overall pick and NHL scoring leader for the 2016/2017 season continues to show his love for this charity game and what it accomplishes every year for Simcoe County.
McDavid’s participation will aid in raising funds for Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre, Orillia Soldier’s Memorial Hospital, Georgian Bay General Hospital and Barrie Colts Community Fund.
“I am thrilled that Connor will be joining us for the fourth year in a row. Fans in Simcoe County love him and the excitement that he brings to the game year in and year out” said HNISC founder Patrick Brown. “His continual support reveals a lot about his character. Seeing top NHL stars use their talents to help community initiatives like ours is truly encouraging.”
Connor McDavid – Often referred to as The Next One, Connor McDavid has been taking the hockey world by storm since the age of 14. Now at only 20 years old, McDavid has received more recognition for his play than many do in their career. His awards and recognitions include: the Jack Ferguson Award (1st overall pick in the OHL Priority Selection Draft), Emms Family Award (top rookie in the OHL), William Hanley Trophy (OHL’s most sportsmanlike player), first overall pick in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, Art Ross Trophy (NHL’s leading scorer), the Ted Lindsay Award (NHL’s most outstanding player), and the Hart Memorial Trophy (NHL’s most valuable player to his team). Additionally, McDavid has led Team Canada to IIHF gold medals at the U18, U20, and the 2016 World Championships. This past season, the Edmonton Oilers captain tallied 100 points in 82 games and is not showing signs of slowing down anytime soon. Hockey Night is happy to welcome their longtime friend back for another great year.
Joining the roster alongside McDavid are former NHLers, Kris King (New York Rangers/Winnipeg Jets/Toronto Maple Leafs), Scott Thornton (Edmonton Oilers/Montreal Canadians/San Jose Sharks), and Greg Johnston (Boston Bruins). Also coming back to the BMC, Calgary Flames prospect and former Colts sniper, Andrew Mangiapane.
